Mesa Baseball secures No. 1 seed in Region I DII Postseason

Mesa Baseball locked up the No. 1 seed in the Region I DII postseason on Saturday after picking up a 5-1 win over Scottsdale.

Troy Benko looked as sharp as he has all season when it matter the most for Mesa, pitching seven and two-thirds stellar innings for the T-Birds only allowing one run in the victory.

MCC's bats were working their magic as Josh Degroot drove in two, Mason Shea continued to produce quality at-bats driving in one, and Agustin Fernandez did his job driving in a run on a sac-fly.

Nolan Hamilton made the play-of-the day to end the game in left field, laying out for a ball that was inches from the grass to seal the victory, and home field advantage for the T-Birds.

The Region I DII Semifinals runs from Thursday-Saturday of next week with the Saturday game only being played if necessary. Since Mesa is the No. 1 seed all roads will run through the T-Birds as they look to make a push to another Region title. 

Time and opponent for Thursday will be announced once available.
