T-Birds Split a Pair with Scottsdale, 6-8, 14-9 Finals

Mesa, AZ - The #7 Mesa Thunderbirds baseball team split a double-header with the Scottsdale Artichokes Tuesday afternoon, with Scottsdale winning game one, 8-6, and Mesa taking game two, 14-9.

It was another chilly Tuesday afternoon on the southside of Mesa as the T-Birds and Artichokes battled for the first time this season.

Scottsdale bested the T-Birds in game one with crooked number innings in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.  Mesa battled back in game two, after giving up four runs in the first inning, the T-Birds answered back with a crooked number of its own, scoring five runs, with the big hit coming off the bat of Brady Bulger, a three run double with the bases loaded.  That hit put Mesa ahead, 5-4.

Starting in the third inning, Mesa scored in every inning the rest of the way, getting one in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings, knocking in three in the seventh and pushing two more across in the eighth.  Along with Bulgers three RBI's, Josh Leslie knock in two runs himself while also scoring twice in game two.

With the split, Mesa moves to 16-9 overall and 10-6 in conference play.  The T-Birds will travel to Glendale on Thursday to play the Gauchos in another non-conference game then travel to Yuma, AZ for a double-header with the Arizona Western Matadors on Saturday.
