Dr. Kaye McDonald

Dr. Kaye McDonald was born and raised in Utah and later moved to California, Colorado and Illinois for various teaching jobs.  In 1966, she became a faculty member at Mesa Community College and continued teaching until 1984.  She served in various capacities at MCC and touched many students, employees, and community members’ lives.  Kaye served as the MCC Tennis and Basketball coach, the Women’s Athletic Director, and as the Department Chairperson for Women’s Physical Education.  Later she became the Dean of Student Services and Director of Development where she served from 1984 - 2000.

Kaye was instrumental in developing Women’s Athletic Programs for the entire Maricopa Community College District.  She and the athletic directors from Glendale and Phoenix College worked to make those programs realities after the passage of Title IX.

She was also very involved on the national level during the 60’s and 70’s.  In fact, Kaye was one of the first women to officiate basketball at the national AAU Women’s Tournament, and she served on the National Basketball Rules Committee that changed women’s basketball to the five-player game that men played.  She also served as the Junior College Representative to the Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) as national tournaments were created for Junior College women.  Later she served as the Regional Representative to the NJCAA when they created programs for women.
