Kari Pew White

Kari Pew White was born in Mesa, Arizona. She has resided in Mesa her entire life save the two years away at BYU for her Junior and Senior years of college. She discovered at a young age that she was a natural athlete and loved competing in most sports. She ran city track for the Mesa Track team in 6th and 7th grades, and played volleyball, tennis, and softball for Mesa High school. She was recruited by Lynn Bedford to play volleyball and to run track for MCC. The two years spent at MCC are still one of the highlights of her life.

As a freshman during the ’76 season, the volleyball team took 3rd place at Junior College Nationals. The accolades continued in 1977 when the team ended its 34 and 5 season as the National Junior College Champions. Kari received All-Conference, First Team honors and was named to the All-American volleyball team.

Her sophomore year the track team won the Conference Championship and Kari went to Junior College Nationals where she placed 1st in the 100 meter hurdles. She was named to the 1978 All-American track team.

After receiving her associate’s degree from MCC, she was recruited by BYU to play volleyball. During her two years at BYU, the volleyball team placed 8th and 13th in the nation.
