MCC Volleyball hangs on to take down Glendale in five sets

The MCC Volleyball team picked up their fourth conference win of the season on Wednesday as they defeated Glendale CC, 3-2.

MCC came out with intent to bounce back from their narrow 3-2 loss to South Mountain CC last Friday as they dominated the opening set against the Gauchos winning 16-25.

Set number two was eerily similar to the first set as the Lady T-Birds kept their foot on the gas and powered their way to another victory, 18-25 giving them a 2-0 lead in the match.

Looking to put the match away early MCC came out on fire as they mounted a 5-0 lead to start the set before a GCC timeout. The Gauchos rallied after the break as they came out and went on an 8-2 run to take a 7-8 lead before MCC head coach Jordan Herrington wanted to regroup her squad.

From them on it was a back and forth but in the end Glendale was able to take their first set of the match 25-19.

In the fourth set MCC dug themselves a hole it seemed they just weren't able to get out of. MCC would fall behind early by as much as seven points and though they would widdle that lead down to as little as three and make a run at the end, it wasn't enough as they fell, 21-25.

In the fifth and final set Mesa would climb ahead early in the set and take a 10-4 lead and would never look back as they would go on to win the set 15-9 and the match 3-2.

MCC has now gone to five sets in four different matches and are an impressive 3-1 in those matches.

With the win MCC's record improves to 7-8 overall and 4-3 in conference play. The Lady T-Birds will be back in action on Friday as they host Phoenix College.
