MCC Volleyball Beats Phoenix College in Season Opener

Phoenix, Ariz. - The Mesa Thunderbirds volleyball team won their season-opening match versus the Phoenix College Bears by a score of 3-1 last night.

This marks the first win for Jordan Abalos Herrington after taking over as the new head volleyball coach.

The T-Birds dropped the first set, 14-25. But won three straight sets (25-22, 25-17, and 25-19) to earn the victory and give the T-Birds their 11th consecutive win against the Bears, dating back to the 2016 season.

"Phoenix College is a tough team," says Coach Herrington. "They came out on fire at the service line and with high energy, but we took too long to adjust to match their energy. After our girls got their confidence, we showed glimpses of what I know we can be as a team. We had a good outcome, but we have a lot of work to do this week as we prepare for Glendale. I'm excited to see this team continue to grow when we're back in action at home."

Up next for the T-Birds, they host their home opener against the Glendale Gauchos on Wednesday, August 31st, at 7:00 pm. All home games will be played at the Theo Heap Gymnasium on the Southern & Dobson campus and will be live streamed on the T-Birds Sports Live page.
