T-Bird volleyball drop hard fought battle to Phoenix College, 3-1

Mesa, AZ- Mesa won the first set 25-22 but couldn't get anything else past Phoenix College Friday night at Theo Heap Gym as the T-Birds lost, 3-1, 25-22, 22-25, 25-27, 23-25.

Mesa had 13 kills in their first set win, only committing two errors in the process as they won 25-22. 

Phoenix rebounding in set two, easily winning 25-22.   Mesa had nine kills on 42 total attacks and again only committed two errors. 

In the third set, both teams battled back and forth with Mesa at one point having a 22-19 advantage, forcing the Bears to take a timeout.  

The Bears rallied back, scoring five of the next seven points to tie the set at 24.  Mesa went ahead on a Taylor Whiteside(So., Moreno Valley, CA, Valley View H.S.) kill.  Whiteside had 17 total kills on the night.  But once again, Phoenix rallied and scored the next three points to win the set, 27-25.

The fourth set resembled the third, both teams exchanging points but Mesa took a 16-12 advantage midway through.  But just like the third set, the Bears held tough and rallied back, going on an 10-4 run to take a 22-20 lead, forcing Mesa to take a timeout.

Both teams again exchanged points until Phoenix finalized the match at 25-23.

Mesa now has an overall record of 4-16, 1-11 in the conference.  The T-Birds will be on the road for the next two matches, playing at Yavapi College October 14th then at Pima October 21st.   Mesa's last home game will then be that Friday, October 23rd against Scottsdale.
