Mesa, AZ- It was an exciting night at Theo Heap Gym as the Mesa Thunderbirds swept the Coyotes of Chandler-Gilbert in three sets, 25-22, 25-19, 25-22.

For Mesa volleyball, it was just the second three set sweep at home in nearly 15 years and the first home match victory since 2013.

Mesa jumped out early in set one, scoring the first 11 points.  After a Chandler-Gilbert timeout, the Coyotes went on a 12-5 run to get the set to 16-12.  Mesa settled down, taking the first set, 25-22.

The second set was all Mesa as they carried their first set momentum into a 25-19 win.  Mesa had 17 kills in the second set.  Leading the T-Birds in kills all night was Taylor Whiteside(So., Moreno Valley, CA, Valley View H.S.) who finished with 18 kills and 12 digs.

The third set went back and forth in the third set, with Mesa staying ahead by two points for a grand majority of the set.  Twice the T-Birds went up by as much as four but Chandler-Gilbert would battle back and tie the score.  But it was Mesa who came out on top, 25-22.

Casey Reid(Fr., Gold Canyon, AZ, Apache Junction H.S.) led the T-Birds in assists with 22 while Breanna Scott(Fr., Casa Grande, AZ, Chandler H.S.) had a team high 23 digs and 11 kills.

For Mesa, this was their first conference victory, fourth victory of the season.
