Women's TF in First Place at Region I Championship

Mesa, AZ - The Thunderbirds women's track & field team competed on day one of the NJCAA Region I Championships on Tuesday.

The 100m, 200m, and 100m hurdles each had preliminary rounds. The top nine finishers in the prelims automatically advance to the finals on Thursday.

The top eight finishers in each event score points, with the top three earning All-Region honors.

The 4x800m relay (Taylor Jacobs, Ryan Heiliger, Mia Sirimarco, and Kate Brockman) were the region champions with a time of 9:56.59.

K. Brockman was also an individual region champion in the 3000m steeplechase and ran a time of 11:26.93. Story Alexander earned region honors with a third-place finish (12:04.37).

Lucy Lines was the region champion in the 10,000m (40:47.39) and S. Alexander (third place - 43:45.05) also earned region honors.

Victoria Malaki (third place - 45.31m) earned region honors in the hammer throw. Kaprice Faraci (fifth place - 41.66m) and Madison Hernandez (seventh place - 40.84m) also scored.

Zamirah Parker (third place - 5.35m) earned region honors in the long jump. Maliyah Ross (eighth place - 5.00m) also scored.

K. Faraci (fourth place - 35.60m) and Maliyah Ross (fifth place - 30.66m) each scored in the javelin throw.

Katherine Lemish and Zana Ryan advanced to the 100m final. Z. Ryan and Zaria Hamilton advanced to the 200m final. K. Lemish and M. Sirimarco advanced to the 100m hurdle finals.

Through eight events, the lady T-Birds lead in the team standings with 75 points. The remaining 14 events will take place on Thursday.
