Men's and women's tennis both fall to NAIA Arizona Christian

The Mesa men's and women's tennis teams will be taking on their usual touch schedule this spring. Both will be facing several NCAA or NAIA four-year schools' varsity teams. Both got a taste of that Saturday when they hosted Arizona Christian and each fell, 6-3

"This was a tough loss," noted head coach Feroz Rast. "We had our opportunities, especially on the men's side. We were up in doubles No. 1 6-3 and 6-4 in doubles No. 3 but could not pull out the win. Those two matches could have been a huge difference going into singles."

"I am very proud of the fight we put out in singles. All six matches were close.  Beto Carlon at No. 1 lost in two close sets. Freshman Harry Browning,  Arturo Salvo, and Andrew Hoffman all pulled out big wins in singles."

"On the ladies side," said Rast, "We also had many opportunities to take the match. Doubles again proved to be the difference-maker as we only managed to take No. 3 doubles.  Freshman Alethea LaCroix and Kylie Williams pulled straight set victories in singles."0

"Lots of experience gained in this match against a very strong NAIA team.  This will make us much more prepared for the conference schedule in March."

The immediate future sees both teams taking a week off before hosting the Arizona State University  Club team on Feb. 12 at the MCC courts.
