Rast looking for big year in women's tennis with new recruits

Mesa could be headed back to ACCAC women's tennis dominance if the recruiting class coach Feroz Rast has put together jells as he expects.

The T-Birds won three of the four Region I titles from 2016-19. But COVID-19 wiped out the 2020 tournament and decimated the MCC roster in 2021, leaving only three players.

But Rast is very hopeful for 2022.

"I'm so excited to introduce our team for this upcoming season, says Rast. "We are adding six amazing players that all have some key things in common.  They are all extremely coachable, hard-working, and come from great high school programs in the Valley. I know this team will continue to improve each day.  I am very excited to add them to our returners and compete for a region and national title."

The athletes listed below, along with Rasts's comments about them, will join Kendra Farrell and Sage Schula who return from the 2021 squad.

Kylie Williams- Casteel High school.  Highly competitive player who comes from a very strong high school program. She is also an amazing worker who gives it 100% all the time.

Alethea LaCroix-Queen Creek High School.  Motivated and a winner! Very smart player who finds a way to win. She is very calm on the court and has a very high tennis IQ.

Brianna Clayton-Basha High School. Very strong player with an all-around game.  Has multiple years of varsity experience. Consistent from the baseline and moves very well on the court.

Brenna Wallen- Desert Vista High School. Strong forehand. Moves well and is very motivated. She is also a very good doubles player and has played varsity since her sophomore year.

Laysha Gomez- Betty Fairfax High School. Multi-sport athlete in high school.  Played number 2 singles her senior year and is very competitive.
