Mesa wins final women's golf event of the year, dominates individual awards

  Scottsdale, AZ – Sweeping to their seventh consecutive tournament victory, the Mesa women's golf team won the final ACCAC event of the year, the Paradise Valley Invitational.

  The T-Birds recorded a 318-353—671 to easily defeat second place Paradise Valley which had a 379-373—752. South Mountain was third at 408-411—819.

  Taking medal honors for the fifth time this year was Alyzzah Vakasioula who fired a one-under-par 70-73—143 to lead MCC to a sweep of the top three spots. Abby Schmidt was second at 79-84—163 and Presley Pickron third with a 78-88—166 total. Nalin Lee rounded out Mesa's scoring with a 100-96—196.

  At the tournament the all-ACCAC and all-Region I teams were announced with MCC dominating. Named first team all-Region/all-ACCAC I were Schmidt and Pickron. Sarah Cordova was second team. In addition, Lee was second team all-ACCAC. Vakasioula missed two events in the middle of the season making her ineligible for individual awards.

  Schmidt was named Player of the Year and head coach John Guerrero Coach of the Year.

  Vakasioula posted the best aggregate 10-round score in Mesa history, 72.4, topping the 72.7 of Beatriz Conti in 2002.

 The T-Birds will now move on to the NJCAA Division I National Championship which will be held at the LPGA International Course at Ormond Beach, Fla., May 10-13.
