Season-opening event sees women's golf with 12-shot lead after day one at South Mountain Inv.
Phoenix, AZ – In its spring season opener the Mesa women's golf team grabbed a 12-shot lead after the first day of the South Mountain Invitational. The event is being played at the Villa de Paz G.C.
MCC shot a 327 total to lead Chandler-Gilbert by 12 shots. Pima was third at 365 and host South Mountain fourth with a 372.
Sophomore Megan Fusak took the individual lead by one shot with a 78. South Mountain's Natalie Young was just behind at 79.
The T-Birds' Haley Kapanicas, a sophomore, was tied for third at 80. Another sophomore, Cheyenne Stewart, was tied for sixth place having carded an 84, while sophomore Hanna Brown and freshman Taylor Gransen were in a tie for eighth at 85.
The tournament concludes Tuesday.
