Women's golf championship begins; Guerrero, Campos enter Hall of Fame

MESA, AZ - The NJCAA Division I Women's Golf National championship got under way at the Longbow G.C., Sunday with a pre-tournament banquet and Hall of Fame induction ceremonies that included MCC head coach John Guerrero and former player Olivia Campos.

The Mesa team enters the four-day event ranked No. 3 in the nation and will begin play as the first group to tee off, joining Daytona State (Fla.) and Seminole State (Fla.) beginning at 7:00 a.m. Monday.

Guerreo has had a fantastic run as Mesa head coach. After taking over a loosely-composed team that had been in existence with a small handful of players the previous two years, he guided Mesa to a fifth place finish in the NJCAA nationals in his first year.

He has helped guide 31 players to four-year schools and 11 of his teams have had cumulative GPAs of at least 3.36. MCC teans have won 14 of 15 Region I championships under his guidance.

Campos was one of the 11 All-Americans Guerrero has coached. She played from 2003-05.
