The women's basketball team suffered their first loss of the season Saturday as they fell to No. 2 Morton College, 78-72.
The Thunderbirds controlled the first half as they took a 37-45 advantage into the locker room. In the opening half the T-Birds shot 46.9% from the field and 52.9% from behind the three point. They were able to hold the Panthers to 27.8% from the three point arc, nearly 7% below the Panthers season average.
In the second half the Panthers began to hit their shots as they outscored Mesa, 22-12 in the period. The Panthers took a two point lead going into the finals quarter and were able to secure the victory.
MCC had 27 fouls which would account for 30 free throws for the Panthers as they scored 22 points from the charity stripe compared to Mesa's 11.
The Thunderbirds were led in scoring by Nia Boston who had 15, along with three other T-Birds who scored double figures, Christabel Longe (11), AnnMarie Trojanvoich (11),& Mackenzie Shivers (10).
After playing three games in three straight days the team will get a break as their next contest won't be until Nov. 22 as they will open conference play at home against South Mountain at home.
