Mesa, AZ - The Mesa Thunderbird men's and women's basketball teams return home Saturday afternoon to host Central Arizona College in a pair of ACCAC conference games.
Women's Basketball:
The Vaqueras (18-4, 11-2 ACCAC); who are currently receiving votes in the latest NJCAA DI Women's Basketball National Poll, will square off against the #20 Thunderbirds (13-7 overall, 8-5 ACCAC) in a battle between second-place teams. Central Arizona currently sits one game behind conference leaders; Arizona Western. Mesa dropped their game Wednesday at AWC by just nine points. The T-Birds are also in second place in the DII ACCAC standings behind Pima. The Aztecs have played two more conference games than the T-Birds and have won each of those contests. Saturday's contest will be the second and final match-up of the season between the Vaqueras and the T-Birds. Mesa kept it close in Coolidge earlier this year but fell 52-49 back on December 8. The opening tip from Theo Heap Gymnasium is set for 2 pm on Saturday.
Men's Basketball:
The third-place Vaqueros (15-8 overall, 9-5 ACCAC) visit Mesa (4-13, 2-10 ACCAC) on Saturday afternoon, and are looking to avenge their loss earlier this season when the T-Birds visited Coolidge. Mesa shocked Central Arizona, winning 72-65 back on December 8. The T-Birds have been able to get up for the big games this season, including this past Wednesday when they traveled to face ACCAC leaders; Arizona Western. Mesa stayed close all night long but fell late 73-69. The Thunderbirds are in search of their first win since January 15, when they upset Scottsdale Community College 68-58. Following Saturday's game, Mesa will hit the road yet again for a make-up game at Glendale on Monday, followed by a trip to Pima on Wednesday evening.
Both games on Saturday will be live-streamed and can be viewed here: https://mesatbirdsports.com/live.
