(#15) Gila Monsters Thrash (RV) Thunderbirds 72-49

Thatcher, AZ - The 15th ranked Eastern Arizona College Gila Monsters coasted to their 16th win of the season on Wednesday evening, defeating the Thunderbirds 72-49.

With the loss, Mesa; whom are currently receiving votes in the latest NJCAA DII Women's Basketball National Poll, drop to 8-6 overall and 3-4 in Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC) play. With the victory, the 15th ranked Gila Monsters Eastern Arizona improve to 15-2 overall and extend their winning streak to nine games. EAC also improves to 6-2 in ACCAC action.

After a quarter of play on Wednesday evening, the short-handed T-Birds were even 13-13 with the 15th ranked Gila Monsters. Following the first ten minutes of action, Eastern Arizona's offense came to life and their defense began to clamp down against Mesa. EAC outscored MCC 19-12 in the second quarter to take a 32-25 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Eastern pulled away for good, as they outscored the Thunderbirds 21-9 in the third quarter.

In the loss, Mesa shot 33% (18-for-54) from the field and were just 3-of-17 (17%) from beyond the three-point arc. The T-Birds had two players finish in double-figures scoring, led by Mykah Anderson's 13 points and six rebounds on 6-of-17 shooting.

Mesa returns to action this Saturday, January 8, when they head west to face Glendale Community College. Tip time is slated for 2pm.
