(RV) Thunderbirds Soar Past Lady Chaps 77-38

MESA, AZ - The Mesa Thunderbird women; who are currently receiving votes in the latest NJCAA DII Women's Basketball National Poll, had an easy time with the Midland Lady Chapparells on Thursday afternoon, defeating the Lady Chaps 77-38.

With the victory, Mesa improves to 8-5 overall, while Midland drops to 9-4 overall with the loss.

The Thunderbirds had a tough go of it on Wednesday afternoon, when they dropped their first contest to Midland by a final of 63-47. The T-Birds quickly erased that game from their memory and responded with a vengeance, as they jumped out to an early 20-3 lead, just six minutes into the game. From there, Mesa would never look back.

Mesa outscored the Lady Chaparrals in every quarter, while limiting Midland to a shooting percentage of 26%.

Mesa was setting season records left and right in Thursday's blowout win. Mesa shot 49% from the field and shot 54% from beyond the three-point arc; with a season high 13 three-pointers made.

In the win, the Thunderbirds had three players score in double-figures; led by Jayla Johnson. She scored a team high 24 points on 8-of-11 shooting, 6-of-8 shooting from deep and she added six rebounds and five assists to her stat line. Mykah Anderson finished with 14 points, a team high eight assists and a team high five steals.

Mesa returns to action in the new year, when they travel to Thatcher to face Eastern Arizona College on Wednesday, January 5. Tip time is slated for 5:30pm. Don't forget to check out the MCC Team Shop, as well as our Booster Club.
