Mesa, AZ- The Mesa women's basketball team rebounded from their first loss of the season to defeat the visiting Angolan Junior National Team, who is currently traveling throughout the state of Arizona.
Mesa cruised out to an early lead, with sophomores Kylie Herd(So., Phoenix, AZ, Arcadia H.S.) and Megan Gillespie(So., Phoenix, AZ, Arcadia H.S.) banking in easy buckets underneath. The T-Birds looked sharp early on offense as both Herd and Gillespie scored the first 14 points for Mesa.
At the ten minute mark of the first half, Mesa had built a 22-5 lead, as Head Coach Kori Stephenson was then able to use her fresh batch of freshman to get some good quality playing time.
Taylor Reed(Fr., Kingman, AZ, Kingman H.S.) showed little fear to attack on offense, scoring a team high 15 points with a team high 10 rebounds in 20 minutes of playing time.
Mesa dominated from beginning to end, finishing with a 48.1 field goal percentage and out rebounding Angola 39 to 25. The T-Birds largest lead of the game was 30 at one point.
The T-Birds will be back home on Saturday, facing the Scottsdale Artichokes at 7 p.m.
