Allyson Girard Wins the Mile in NAU Tune-Up

Flagstaff, AZ – Sophomore Allyson Girard won the mile and improved on her NJCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships qualifying mark to highlight Mesa action at the Northern Arizona Tune-up Friday evening.  

Girard won with a time of 5:16.34, two and a half seconds better than her previous mark. She placed third in the3,000 meters at last year's nationals and earned All=American honors.  

Onnika Scott also improved on her NJCAA standard in the women's weight throw at 54-8 ¼.  

Phoebe Larson added her name to the qualifying list in the women's triple jump with a leap of 36-11 ¾.  

Cameron Lewis also greatly improved his standard in the men's weight throw with a 54- ¾ posting.  

That was more than four feet better than his previous mark.  

MCC has one more meet before nationals. It will host the Mesa Last Chance at John D. Riggs Stadium on Saturday, Feb. 25.
