PARADISE VALLEY AZ – The pace of national qualifications slowed dramatically as the Mesa track and field teams returned to Paradise Valley for the second meet of the indoor season.

Only one athlete, women's 3,000-meter runner Allyson Girard, bettered the standard for a new
qualification to the NJCAA National Indoor Track and Field Championships which will be held March 4-5 in Wake Forest, N.C. Girard posted a 11:02.14 to squeak past the qualifying mark by one-tenth of a second.

MCC had three pole vaulters exceed qualifying, but ironically all three exactly equaled their performance of a week ago. Leonard Bellgardt, IV, cleared 15-3 and Trston Slater 14-9 for the men, while Calla Reed vaulted 11-5 ¾ for the women.

In addition, Jacob McBridge had a 50-5 ¼ in the weight throw, but posted 55- ½ last week.

The teams will participate in the Aztec Invitational in Tucson, Friday and Saturday.
