The Mesa softball team kicked off their season with two wins against GCU (Club) Saturday afternoon.

In the first game the Lady T-Birds shook the cobwebs off early as they put up a 12 run opening inning behind a Alexxa Torres grand slam and a Rylee Blackburn homer. MCC won their first game 23-4.

In their second of the double header Mesa jumped out early again in the first inning, posting three runs. Two of which came off the bat of Alex Reeve who pumped a two run shot over the fence.

Jerzey Guiterrez pitched a complete game (five inning) shutout for the T-Birds in her first collegiate game. MCC went on to win 12-0.

The team will be back in action on Tuesday as they host Benedictine University Mesa (JV) in another doubleheader. The first game will begin at 1 p.m. with the second starting at 3 p.m.
