Five Inning 8-0 Victory for Softball Over Grand Canyon Club

Mesa, AZ - The Mesa Thunderbirds softball team continued their strong hitting performance from Tuesday against Chandler-Gilbert by getting eight more hits today in an 8-0 win over Grand Canyon University club team.

Scoring didn't come about til the third inning for Mesa but it all started with a single to left by Kelsey Chiaverini.  Chiaverini then stole second base then advanced to third on a pass ball and with an infield single from Sienna Erran, Mesa took a 1-0 lead.

The T-Birds would push three more runs across in the third inning to give starting pitcher, Jordan McClellan a nice cushion heading into the later innings of the game.

McClellan on the afternoon pitched five scoreless innings, allowing just two hits, while striking out two.

Marrisa Ibarra-Paloma was 3-3 with two RBI's and two runs on the day while Raychelle Hernandez went 2-4, scoring one run.

The T-Birds will be on the road on Saturday when they take on South Mountain, who are currently sitting one game ahead in the ACCAC DII standings.  First pitch is scheduled for noon.
