Yotuel Garcia Leads Men's XC to Team Title at Home Meet

Mesa, Ariz. - The Thunderbirds men's cross country team was led by Yotuel Garcia as they won the team title in their home meet, the Mesa College Jamboree.

The T-Birds scored 34 points to beat runner-up Paradise Valley by 20 points. Garcia won the individual title with a personal-best time of 25:09 for 8,000 meters. In fact, seven T-Birds recorded personal bests in the men's race.

Javier Garcia (4th - 25:54.8 PB), Yael Caballero Ferro (5th - 25:55 PB), Joshua Lumpkin (12th - 26:48.4 PB), and Greyson Akers (14th - 26:54.9 PB) rounded out the five scorers for Mesa.

"Very proud of how the men competed today," said Head Coach Dan Pescador. "Across the board, everyone ran well and they raced together. Yotuel again was great running from the front and took control early and never looked back. We are very impressed with how Javier and Yael competed and broke the 26-minute barrier. This men's group has been training very well, so it's great to see them compete well together. We still have some things to work on but we're in good shape heading into our next two meets."

The T-Birds will travel to San Deigo, CA next week to compete in the Manny Bautista Invite on Friday.
