No. 6 men's tennis tops previously unbeaten College of the Desert, 5-4

  Palm Desert, Cal. – Mesa's sixth-ranked men's tennis team scored a big victory to open its three-match California weekend with a 5-4 win over previously-unbeaten College of the Desert Thursday.

  The T-Birds took two of the three doubles matches while splitting the six singles contests in improving their record to 5-2. MCC has lost only to NCAA Division I opponents. COD had previously won all six of its matches while losing only two of a possible 54 individual matches.

  In splitting the singles matches Mesa won twice in three-set victories.

  Jorge Sala took a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 win over Saar Rogovski at No. 4, and Lucas Hoffrichter won 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 at No. 6 versus Nick Correa. In addition, Lucas Severo took a straight-set decision over Amir Hosein, 7-6(7), 6-2 at No. 5.

  In doubles Mesa won at No. 2 at Corey Pabst and Yohan Prinsen defeated Manfred Brandesvogt and Mich, 8-4 and Severo and Ali Moin teamed to win 8-4 over Husein and Correa.

  The T-Birds will remain in the Palm Springs area Friday, facing 5-1 Irvine Valley.
