The Mesa Men's Golf team opened the spring season with a 3rd place finish at the Mesa Thunderbird Invitational held at Dobson Ranch GC.

The T-Birds shot 294 (+6) in the first round and found themselves in 6th place. They rebounded on day 2 shooting 290 (+2) and jumped 3 spots to claim 3rd, finishing 294-290-585 (+6). Sophomore Stratton Deneke finished T-11 shooting (72-72-144) even par for the tournament. Freshman Ross Kocsis 74-72-146 (+2) finished T-17. South Mountain won the event 277-274-551.

"We made a lot of sloppy bogeys out on our home course. I think it's a little bit of nerves and soggy course conditions that got to us. Nice to see we improved on day 2 to jump a few spots. We will make necessary adjustments and be prepared for the PV tourney," said head coach John Guerrero.

The Thunderbirds will compete Feb. 25-26 in the Paradise Valley Invite at Encanto GC in Phoenix, AZ.
