Men's Basketball hosts Phoenix College on Sophomore Night

MCC Men's Basketball hosts Phoenix College in their final regular season home game on Saturday afternoon as they also celebrate Sophomore night.

The Thunderbirds come into play with a 7-19 record (5-15 ACCAC). Mesa has won just one of their last five games and are currently riding a four game losing streak.

Phoenix College holds a 3-25 record (3-17 ACCAC). The Bears have lost four of their last five but are coming off an 75-74 upset victory over No. 7 Chandler-Gilbert on Wednesday.

This will be the third and final meeting of the season between the two clubs, MCC has won both previous contests. On Dec. 13 Mesa took home an 83-62 win, while on Feb. 7 they came out victorious, 73-62.

Thunderbird Sophomores:

Lual Lual:

Lual has aver11.5 PPG, 7.7 RPG, and 1.2 APG in his two years as a T-Birds. Lual also joined the 500 career point club this year.

Orlando Gonzales:

Gonzales is what makes the Mesa offense tick, a spot up shooter that can connect from anywhere. In his two years at MCC, Gonzales has averaged 11.3 PPG,  2.3 RPG, and 2.3 APG. Gonzales hit the 30 point mark in back-to-back games this season for the T-Birds. 

Andrew Owens

In his solo season on the court for Mesa, Owens has averaged 2.8 PPG, 1.7 RPG, and .6 APG. 

Taisei Kitahara:

Kitahara has averaged 1.4 PPG, .7 RPG, and .7 APG in his two seasons at MCC.

In addition to the action on the court, MCC Student Support Foundation will be selling concessions to raise funds for student emergence financial assistance and other college expenses. The MCC Disc Jockey program will also be in attendance, jamming out and raising the energy for the crowd and players. 

The game will tip-off at 4:00 p.m. and will be streamed on T-Birds Sports Live.
