Men's Basketball looks to rough up the Roughriders on Saturday

Friday December 15,  2023 - 1:40 p.m. | Dylan DeVlieger

MCC Men's Basketball looks to secure another conference win on Saturday as they travel to take on Yavapai College.

The Thunderbirds come into play with a 4-4 overall record (2-2 ACCAC) after a 83-62 victory over Phoenix College on Wednesday night. MCC shot the ball very well from the field (54.7%), and hit a season high 12 three-pointers in the contest.

The Roughriders hold a 7-7 overall record (1-3 ACCAC) after suffering back to back losses at the hands of Arizona Western. Though YC had 78 shots in their last contest they only connected on 23 of them to score 59 points.

The game will be played at Yavapai College and will tip-off at 4:00 p.m.

Thunderbird Keys to the Game:

  • Crash the glass: Yavapai ranks towards the bottom of the conference when it comes to rebounding the ball. With 35.8 total rebounds and just 9.8 offensive boards/game, the Thunderbirds can make a statement and earn a victory if they can control the glass.

  • Be aggressive and get to the charity stripe: MCC shoots 74.3% from the free throw line so far this season. This would be a more significant statistic if the Thunderbirds would get to the foul stripe more often as they average 20.9 free throws per contest, 7th best in the conference. If Mesa can find a way to get more free throw attempts against YC, they could shoot themselves to victory.
