Mesa basketball welcomes Cochise College to Theo Heap Gymnasium Wednesday night for an ACCAC showdown.

Men's Basketball

The Cochise team is riding a 13 game winning streak right now, as they come in 15-2 overall and 9-0 in ACCAC play. They sit atop the conference rankings, and are receiving votes for the NJCAA top 25.

The Apaches have three players averaging double digits in scoring, led by Tyreese Watson who averages 18.2 a game, Oscar Cluff who nets 16.4 points per game, and Jalen Barbe who scores 11.7 points per game. Watson is second in points per game in the ACCAC. Cochise scores the ball at a very efficient level as they are top five in PPG in the conference with 86.9 points a game while shooting the ball the best in the conference both from the field (55%) and behind the arc (41.7%).

The Thunderbirds come in with a 6-10 overall record and a 2-7 record against ACCAC opponents. They have lost three straight where they lost each game but an average of just six points. Their last victory was against Eastern Arizona on Jan 4, 88-72.

Mesa is led in scoring by Timmy Johnson who averages 14.6 points per game, Nicholas Riley who averages 12.6, and Tampa Scott who scores 11.6 per contest. Riley is 6th in the conference in rebounds per game with 8.2 and 3rd in offensive rebounds with 3.6.

Last year these two teams met twice with Cochise winning both contests by an average margin of 37.5 points.

Women's Basketball

The  No. 23 Apaches come in with a eight game winning streak and a 15-2 overall record with a 8-1 conference record, their only conference loss came against Eastern Arizona.

Cochise is led in scoring by Maeva de laFortuna Ngnawo who averages 13.1 points a game, followed by Chana Paxixe who scores 11.9 per contest. Ngnawo is second in the conference in rebounding with 9.2 per game.

The No. 5 Lady T-Birds hold a 13-3 overall record with an 8-1 conference record with their sole ACCAC loss also being against Eastern Arizona. The team comes in with a three game winning streak dominant wins against Pima and Phoenix College.

MCC is led in scoring by Nia Boston (12.7), Mykah Anderson (12.5), and Mackenzie Shivers (11.9). The team leads the conference in points per game with 74.6, and most three pointers made per contest with 9.4.

In both match-ups last season Mesa came out on top by an average margin of 10.5 points.

The men will tip-off at 5:30 p.m. followed by the women at 7:30 p.m.
