Mesa opens up conference play at home against South Mountain.

Mesa basketball kicks off conference play tonight as they host South Mountain Community College.

The women's team comes into conference  play as the No. 7 team in the country after their 3-1 start to the season. The Thunderbirds only loss on the year was to No. 2 Morton College on Nov. 12, 78-72.

The Lady T-Birds have five players averaging double figures in scoring: Nia Boston (14), Mackenzie Shivers (13), Mykah Anderson (12.3), Kada Taliman (10.3), and AnnMarie Torjanovich (10). The team comes in averaging the fourth most points per game in the conference with 79.5 on 47.6% shooting from the floor which is second best in the ACCAC. Mesa does hold the best three point shooting percentage in the conference with 40.6%.

The South Mountain women's team also comes into tonight's game with a 3-1 record as they are averaging 78.3 points per game and are led by the ACCAC leader in points per game as Genesis Adams averages 20.7.

The men's team for Mesa is 4-0 as they are off to their best start since the 2016-17 season. The T-Birds have five players scoring in double figures: Timmy Johnson (16.3), Evan Clayton (15.3), Nicholas Riley (13.5), Justin Chambers (13), and Lual Lual (12.8). The team averages 99.5 points per game on 50% shooting from the floor.

The Thunderbirds hit the glass hard and often as Mesa has three of the top 15 rebounders per game in the ACCAC as Evan Clayton is 5th with 8.3, Justin Chambers ranks 6th with  8, and in 15th is Lual Lual with 6.5 boards per game.

The South Mountain men's team comes into tonight with a 4-0 record as they average 101.5 points per game on 52.7% shooting from the floor. They are led in scoring by Jimmy Causey Jr. who averages 16 points a contest.

Tonight is the 9th annual American Indian Recognition game as the teams will wear their Nike N7 jerseys for the occasion. Halftime entertainment by Renae Blackwater Performers. The men's game gets underway at 5:30pm, followed by the women's game at 7:30 pm.
