BJ Burries Named To ACCAC 2nd Team All-Region DI

MESA, AZ - The Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC) announced their men's basketball All-Region teams on Thursday morning. BJ Burries from the Thunderbird men's basketball team was named to the ACCAC All-Region Division 1 Second Team.

"BJ (Burries) has been a standout player and person in our program for two years," said interim Mesa men's basketball head coach Jimmy Herrera. "A coach cannot ask for a more coachable player than BJ.  He gave every ounce of himself to the team and others, and our conference recognized that. This is a well-deserved honor for BJ Burries."

The lone sophomore on the T-Birds squad, BJ Burries appeared in 21 games this past season and averaged a team-high 15.5 points per game. He shot 40% from the field and over 88% from the free-throw line. He scored in double-figures in 17 of the games he appeared in, including a season-high 31 points in a road loss to conference co-champion Arizona Western. Buries missed three of the final four games of the regular season but made sure to go out on a high note this past Tuesday. He finished with 15 points in a two-point loss at Scottsdale Community College.

Following that loss at Scottsdale Community College, the T-Bird men saw their 2021-22 season come to a close. Mesa ended the season 5-20 overall and 3-17 in ACCAC action.
