Vaqueros Race To Victory Against T-Birds

Mesa, AZ - Central Arizona attacked from the opening tip on Saturday afternoon and stifled the Mesa Thunderbirds en route to a 76-62 victory.

With the win, Central Arizona College improves to 16-8 overall and 10-5 in ACCAC action. With the loss, Mesa has now dropped their last five games and fall to 4-14 overall and 2-11 in ACCAC play.

The Vaqueros and Thunderbirds battled back and forth for the first ten minutes of play on Saturday afternoon. Mesa led by as many as five points before Central began to find their shooting touch. In that first half, the Vaqueros shot 46% (12-of-26) from the floor to Mesa's 29% (9-of-31) from the floor, to take a 33-22 advantage into halftime.

In the second half, both offenses were scorching hot. Central shot 58% from the floor and Mesa shot 57% from the floor. Both offenses combined to score 83 points in just 20 minutes of action. In the end, Central would never surrender their lead and held on for the 76-62 victory.

In the loss, Mesa was led by BJ Burries' 21 points on 6-of-18 shooting. Timmy Johnson added 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting.

The Thunderbirds return to action this Monday when they head west to face Glendale Community College. Monday's game is a make-up for a postponement back in January. Tip time is slated for 7:30 pm.
