Six in double figures pace men to 84-67 win at Pima

  TUCSON, AZ - Six players scored in double figures for the Mesa men who went a long sway toward securing the No. 1 seed in the Region I tournament with an 84-67 win at Pima Wednesday.

  The T-Birds (16-8, 13-5) maintain a two-game lead over Cochise, which defetaed Scottsdale, 90-79, Wednesday, with four games left to play.

  Against the Aztecs (17-9, 9-9), after the lead changed hands 11 times in the first six minutes, MCC went on a 28-8 tear to build a 41-24 margin with 5:36 to go in the first half and was never threatened.

  By halftime MCC, which shot a blistering .594 (19-32), had taken a 49-30 lead and then expanded that to as many as 25 points midway through the second period.

  For the game Mesa ended at .545 from the floor, hit ten of 24 three-point attempts, and completely owned the boards, 42-19.

  Mitch Burnett (Fr., Phoenix, AZ/Central H.S.) led the double-figure parade with 16 points.

  Andrew Jones (So., Portland, Ore/Westview H.S.) had 16, Khari Holloway (So., Jackson, Miss/Mountain Pointe (AZ) H.S.) added 12, Kyle Bingham (Fr., Mesa, AZ/Mountain View H.S.) chipped in with 11 and Jordan Pratt (Fr., Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain H.S.) and Sam Hainline (Fr., Laramie, Wyo/Laramie H.S.) each scored ten.

  Holloway had eight rebounds, Bingham seven and Hainline six.

  Mesa entertains Central Arizona Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
