MESA, AZ - The T-Birds went on a 34-7 second half run to turn a 51-44 deficit into a 78-58 lead and went on to a 90-65 win over Williston St. in the first round of the Fiesta Bowl Junior College Classic Saturday.
MCC trailed most of the first half and was down 42-36 at the break. Then MCC exploded.
Khari Holloway (So., Jackson, Miss/Mountain Pointe (AZ) H.S.) scored 16 of his 20 points in the second half. Andrew Jones (So., Portland, Ore/Westview H.S.) led all scorers with 23, including 17 in the final 20 minutes. Kyle Bingham (Fr., Mesa, AZ/Mountain View H.S.) added 14 points and eight rebounds and Charles Wardell (So., Milwaukee, Wisc/Northwest Secondary H.S.) scored 11.
Mesa will play Monroe (NY) an easy winner over Ranger (Texas) at 6:00 p.m. Sunday in the semi-finals.
