#13 Mesa Explodes for 58 Points in Rout Over Phoenix College, 58-13
Mesa, AZ - For the second time this season, #13 Mesa has knocked off a top ten nationally ranked team, this time it was Phoenix College. The T-Birds exploded for a Ryan Felker era record, 58 points in a totally Mesa dominated 58-13 victory.
58 points are the most points scored by a Mesa team since 2008 when the T-Birds beat Pima, 58-0.
Mesa started early on the first scoring drive, with a 14 play, 82 yard drive capped off by a Rathen Ricedorff seven yard TD run. Later in the quarter, Luis Bustillos tacked on a 23 yard field goal to push Mesa's lead to 10-0.
In the second quarter, Mesa started a drive on their own three yard line but a big run up the middle by Tyrek Cross opened up the field for the T-Birds. Just two plays later, Ricedorff connected with his big wideout DeShawn Jones for a 19 yard touchdown pass.
That touchdown was the first of six touchdown passes that Ricedorff would throw on the night. Ricedorff unofficially finished with 430 yards passing on 31-42 passing with seven total touchdowns. He connect with 10 different receivers on the night with all six touchdown passes going to six different receivers.
Ricedorff would connect with Darius Aguirre for a 23 yard touchdown and then Jocquez Kalili pulled his best Franco Harris Impaculate Reception impression by catching a ricochet pass in the endzone for a 15 yard TD reception.
PC only connected on two field goals in the first half and Mesa took total momentum into halftime with a 31-6 lead.
Connor Anderson was the recepient of Ricedorffs fourth touchdown, a one handed 44 yard catch and run play to push Mesa's lead to 37-6.
Jocqui Ellison flipped into the endzone with Ricedorffs fifth touchdown from four yards out to give Mesa a 44-6 advantage.
The last of Ricedorffs touchdown passes went to Aaron Molina, who turned on the jets and raced 54 yards for the touchdown pushing Mesa's lead to 51-6.
Jocquez Kalili turned on the after burners himself on the next possession as he took a handoff for 66 yards and raced pass the Bear defense for Mesa's final touchdown.
Mesa's defense didn't play second fiddle to the offense as they once again proved why they are one of the nations toughest defenses. Constent pressure from the D-Line forced bad passes with Mesa's secondary flying around breaking up passes and making big hits.
This was a conference game for Mesa, which brings their Western States Football League record to 3-0, 5-1 overall. After three weeks of home games, Mesa will be on the road at Glendale next Saturday night, 7 p.m. kickoff.
