Mesa, AZ - The #13 Mesa Thunderbirds used another walkoff to win a big game, this time against the Phoenix College Bears Tuesday afternoon, a 2-1 victory for the Birds.

It was Luke Patty, who went 4-5 on the day, used his finally hit of the afternoon to knock in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning.  Demetrio Botello was the winning run for Mesa, who reached base because he hussled out a fielder's choice.  Connor Denning then singled Botello over to second followed by the winning hit by Patty.

Luke Patty also scored the only other run for Mesa, as he doubled in the sixth inning and he eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Ben Ferguson.

Pitching all nine innings for the T-Birds, Carter Robinson faced 33 batters on the afternoon, allowing just four hits, one earned run while striking out six.

With a victory Tuesday afternoon, Mesa has also locked up a playoff spot for the 2019 Region I / ACCAC DII baseball playoffs that begin next week.  As for the seed, that has yet to be determined and won't be determined till the final game of the regular season.

The T-Birds and Bears will be back in action tomorrow afternoon at PC, first pitch at 3 pm.
