23 T-Birds Honored as Academic All-Americans
COLORADO CITY, Colo. – It was another outstanding year for Mesa athletics in the classroom.
MCC had 23 individuals honored by the NJCAA as All-Academic as well as six complete teams. The 23 student-athletes was a Mesa record, surpassing the 22 that were cited last year. The six teams were just one short of the best ever for the T-Birds, one short of the total for 2013-14.
Among the 23 individuals, three: Samantha Miller (women’s track and field and cross counry), Sheridan Skarda (women’s tennis) and Natalie Stilwell (women’s basketball) were given the designation of “Pinnacle” for compiling 4.0 GPAs.
An additional eight received “Superior” ranking for GPAs of 3.80-3.99 and the remainder were noted as “Exemplary” for GPAs of 3.60-3.79.
The six teams honored were Women's Indoor Track and Field, Women's Softball, Women's Golf, Men's Baseball, Women's Outdoor Track and Field and Women's Volleyball. To receive the honor the entire squad had to post a 3.00 GPA or better for both semesters as a group.
Mesa has averaged over 20 individuals and six full teams receiving academic honors for the past four years.
