Women's Cross Country Season Preview

The Women's Cross Country team kicks off their 2023 season Saturday morning at their home course in the Mesa College Early Bird Open.

The Lady T-Birds are coming off of a historic performance last season where they finished as the national runner up at the national championship meet, they lost to the winner by just one point.

The team this year consists of all first year athletes with the exception of returner Taylor Jacobs. With the youth and inexperience on the team, others may write off the Lady T-Birds, assistant coach Spencer Peterson and company look at it as an opportunity to shock those who may be doubting them.

 "Our women have the opportunity to really surprise a lot of teams because nobody is thinking that they will be competing for another trip to the National Meet," said Peterson, "but our team is resilient and preparing to shock those who are not giving us much credit!"

With the long grind of the season, making goals along the way is important to feel as though you are making progress. With Saturday's race being the first collegiate race for many MCC athletes, the coaching staff 

 "For Saturday's meet, I am looking for each member of the team to improve by at least 30 seconds from the time trial we had a couple of weeks ago," said Peterson, "this will be the first real test to evaluate where each athlete is and how our team stands going into the month of September."

 The race will begin at 8:00 A.M. and will take place at MCC.
