Sandra Stultz

Sandra Stultz is possibly one of the Mesa Athletic Hall of Fame members whose name recognition isn't very high. However, her accomplishments may rank among the top of those enshrined.

Stultz was instrumental in the development of women's sports, not just at MCC, but for the entire Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) and even nationally.

Very active in women's athletics nation-wide, and with the NJCAA, she undertook a huge role in literally saving the 1992 NJCAA Volleyball Championship Tournament.

When a hurricane struck Miami, site of that year's tournament, forcing the possible cancelation of the event, Stultz went into action. In barely a week she secured facilities at Arizona State, allowing the championship to take place.

She had a huge impact on the development of women's athletics at Mesa.

She began at MCC as assistant women's basketball coach from 1976-1987. The first part of her tenure was prior to the NJCAA beginning to sponsor women's athletics nationally.

Just a year later she was named head softball coach. She remained in that role for nine years, compiling an outstanding 325-125 record. All the while she served as adjunct faculty in Exercise Science and was also the Sports Information Director for Mesa women's sports. And, from 1984-95 she was Athletic Director for women's sports as well.

In addition, Stultz served on the MCCCD Athletic Council, helping to create the Athletic Specialist position in the District, providing a way for member colleges to hire full-time coaches.

She was quite deservedly inducted into the Mesa Athletic Hall of Fame in 2019.
