Ken Reed

Ken Reed was a prominent baseball player for MCC during the 1969-1970 seasons for Hall of Fame Coach Jim Brock.  Ken Reed’s teams were 69-23 during his two years as Mesa’s 2nd baseman.  The late Coach Jim Brock once stated that Ken was the crucial piece to the Mesa HoKams National Championship puzzle in 1970.  Ken came through in the clutch with a two-run homer in the title game that got things started in the first of three straight Mesa national titles.

                As a matter of fact, Coach Jim Brock and his wife Patsey, helped house Ken along with Randy Bayer in those days.  It was the early days of Mesa Community College baseball and Coach Jim Brock would travel far and wide to find

                The JUCO World Series in the early 1970’s pitted Mesa College of Grand Junction versus Mesa Community College of Mesa, Arizona.  The Hokams, (Thunderbirds of old) had one Hall of Fame Coach leave for Arizona State University, in Jim Brock, and saw another Hall of Famer come into the fold in Jim Frye in 1971.  Ken Reed was pivotal in helping Mesa, Arizona become the first to win back to back junior college World Series’.  Ken would later play at Arizona State and be named to the 1972 All-College World Series team as a 2nd baseman.
