Glendale, Ariz. - The Mesa Thunderbirds women's cross country team put on a dominant performance at the NJCAA Region I Cross Country Championships Friday morning, with Kate Brockman leading the way for the individual region title.

The T-Birds won the region team title with a score of 17 points, beating the Phoenix College Bears by 23 points. This is the ninth time in program history that the T-Birds have claimed the region title.

Brockman clocked in a time of 19:20, a new personal best for 5000 meters. Tanaeya Johnson (third, 20:19.1), Story Alexander (fourth, 20:26.8), Brooke Stradling (seventh, 21:22.4), Makayla Engelhardt (12th, 22:33.3), Anna Harmon (14th, 23:11.6), and Viviana Tavena (22nd, 29:48.8) also competed for the T-Birds. Five of the athletes earned All-Region Honors.

"Outstanding race by Kate," Says Head Coach Pescador. "To follow up her conference title with a region title is truly remarkable. The ladies exectued their race plan accordingly, and won with a very low score."

The T-Birds will wrap up the season at the NJCAA Cross Country Championships on November 13th at Pole Green Park, just outside of Richmond, Virgina. This will be the ninth straight season that the T-Birds will be competing at the championships.
