Women's Cross Country Continues to Improve at Highlander Invite

Riverside, Calif. - The Thunderbirds women's cross country team raced at the UCR Highlander Invitational Saturday morning, with the T-Birds showing out in the 6000 meter race.

The women finished 20th in the team scoring out of 25 teams. Mesa was one of the few junior college teams competing in the meet, as the majority of the teams were either NCAA or NAIA affiliated.

Makayla Engelhardt lead the women through the 6000-meter course with a time of 22:36.9 and finishing in 79th. Kate Brockman (109th, 23:05.9), Tanaeya Johnson (168th, 24:07.2), Story Alexander (171st, 24:09.2), Brooke Stradling (235th, 26:27.3), and Anna Harman (251st, 27:57.3) also ran.

"Extreamly proud of the way our women competed in a rarley run distance of 6k," says Head Coach Dan Pescador. "The ladies did a heck of a job competing. Makayla had another tremendous breakout performance. We're in a good position heading into regionals and nationals."

Up next for the T-Birds, they will run in their final regular-season meet of the season next Saturday at the ACU Invitational, on the campus of Arizona Christian University in Glendale.
