Engelhardt Cruises to Victory at CAMPY Invitational
Coolidge, Ariz. - Freshman Makayla Engelhardt won the individual title convincingly at the inaugural Vaquera "CAMPY" Invitational Saturday morning.
Engelhardt recorded a personal-best time of 19:03.7 in the 5000-meter race to win by nearly 15 seconds over the runner-up. Story Alexander also posted a top-10 finish, placing seventh overall and clocking in a 19:38.3 performance, also a personal best. Anna Harmon also competed for the Thunderbirds, placing 26th and running a time of 22:57.6.
"A little short-handed, but the women ran outstanding," said Head Coach Dan Pescador. "Makayla led from beginning to end and ran a lifetime best. Story replicated that as well and stayed within her race pace and it also resulted in a lifetime best. Anna ran great, she's coming off an injury and is easing back into it. I think today showed where her potential can be by the time nationals roll around.
The T-Birds will race at the UCR Highlander Invitational next week on Saturday the 16th in Riverside, California.
