Women's Cross Country Finishes Second at Embry Riddle Invitational

Prescott, Ariz. - The Thunderbirds women's cross country team placed second in the 5k race at the Embry Riddle Invitational in Prescott. The meet took place on the campus of Embry Riddle Aeronautical University.

The women scored 49 points in the team scores, finishing behind host Embry Riddle with 17 points. The T-Birds ran five athletes in the race, which included Kate Brockman (fifth place, 21:11), Story Alexander (sixth place, 21:18), Makayla Engelhardt (ninth place, 22:07), Brooke Stradling (12th place, 22:26), and Tanaeya Johnson (17th place, 23:15).

"An outstanding effort from all five of our team members on a very tough course at 5200 feet above sea level," says Assistant Coach Spencer Peterson. "I am thrilled to see the improvement in our trio of Kate, Story, and Makayla! Brooke was outstanding and Tanaeya continues to impress! We saw our pack of five improve by significantly reducing the time gap between our first and fifth runners. The next three weeks will be important as we prepare now for the ACCAC Championships."

The T-Birds now move their focus to the ACCAC Championships on October first. Paradise Valley CC will host the championships at Freestone Park in Gilbert.
