Women's TF in Sixth Place After Day Two of Outdoor Nationals

Hobbs, NM - The Thunderbirds women's track & field team had two athletes earn All-American honors on day two of the NJCAA Outdoor Championships on Friday.

Maliyah Ross earned AA honors in the heptathlon as she finished in seventh place with a personal-best score of 4,310 points.

Kate Brockman earned AA honors in the 3000m steeplechase with a fourth-place finish (11:38.96). Story Alexander finished in 10th place (12:23.75).

Before the steeplechase, K. Brockman finished in sixth place in the 1500m prelims to advance to the final on Saturday. Ryan Heiliger also advanced to the final after an 11th-place finish.

Katherine Lemish advanced to the 100m hurdle final after a seventh-place finish in the prelims. Taylor Jacobs advanced to the 800m final with a fifth-place finish in the prelims.

The 4x400m relay (Zaria Hamilton, Diane Ondobo, K. Lemish, and T. Jacobs) crushed their previous school record with a 3:47.98 performance in the prelims and will be advancing to the final.

Zana Ryan ran a personal-best time of 11.80 seconds in the 100m dash prelims but was unable to advance to the final. Lucy Lines was 10th in the 10,000m run (42.08.51).

The discus throw was originally scheduled for Friday, but weather concerns due to lightning and hail caused the event to be rescheduled for Saturday.

The lady T-Birds currently sit in sixth place with 16 points in the team standings after eight events scored.

The meet will wrap up on Saturday with 14 events remaining, 11 of which will feature Mesa athletes.
