Women's TF Goes 4-1, Earns ACCAC Runner-Up Title

Coolidge, Ariz. - The Thunderbirds women's track & field team went 4-1 at the 2022 ACCAC Track & Field Championships, hosted by Central Arizona College. This is the fifth runner-up conference title in program history.

The T-Birds had seven runner-up finishes and three event winners. Their lone loss was to Central Arizona (109-74), but they beat out Glendale (128-32), Paradise Valley (132-16), Phoenix (127-19), and Pima (98-94).

In their career debuts for the 3000-meter steeplechase, Kate Brockman (11:47.56) and Anna Harmon (12:06.93) went 1-2 and hit qualifying times for nationals in the process.

Both the 4x100 (48.33) and 4x400 (3:55.94) meter relays were runner-ups and improved upon their season-best times. Ciara Bardwell was the runner-up in the 400-meter dash (57.22, personal best).

Makayla Engelhardt won the 1500-meter run (5:04.30, personal best) and was the runner-up in the 800-meter run (2:34.50). Karsten Deakin (45.45 meters, personal best) and Julianna Perez (42.56 m) went 1-2 in the hammer throw. Deakin also earned a new personal-best mark in the shot put (13.28 m). Kaprice Faraci was the runner-up in the javelin throw (38.64 m, personal best). Next week will be an off-week for most of the T-Birds, however, a select few will be invited to compete in the Sun Angel Invitational next Friday and Saturday, hosted by Arizona State University.
