Women's TF Qualifies Three in Outdoor Season Opener

Tucson, Ariz. - The Thunderbirds women's track & field team had three individuals hit outdoor nationals qualifying marks at the Willie Williams Classic, hosted by the University of Arizona.

The meet was loaded with teams from the NCAA D-I (Arizona, CSU Northridge, Grand Canyon, Loyola Marymount (CA), New Mexico St., St. Thomas (MN), and Utah St.), NCAA D-II (Central Washington and Western New Mexico), NAIA (British Columbia, Hamline (MN), Hastings (NE), Ottawa (AZ), and Park Gilbert) and NJCAA (Central Arizona, Glendale, Paradise Valley, and Pima) levels.

Kate Brockman ran a qualfying time of 4:54.52 in the 1500 meter run and was 19th overall.

Karsten Deakin was a double qualifier in both the discus (40.88 meters, 134' 1'') and hammer throws (44.23 m, 145' 1''). Deakin was also 14th in the shot put (12.04 m, 39' 6'').

Brooke Stradling nearly recorded a personal best in the 800 meter run, but was still able to run a qualifying time with a 2:19.32 effort.

Anna Harmon and Makayla Engelhardt both were within ten seconds of qualifying for the 1500 meter run, running times of 5:03.53 and 5:06.76 respectively. Ciara Bardwell ran personal bests in both the 100-meter dash (12.34) and 200-meter dash (25.37). Click on the link below to view the complete results.

The T-Birds will host the Mesa Multi Invitational and will compete in the Cody McBride Invitational, March 24th through the 26th.
