Julianna Perez and Women's DMR Qualify at CAC Indoor

Coolidge, Ariz. - The Thunderbirds women's track & field team had one individual and one relay team qualify for the first time this indoor season at the Central Arizona College Indoor Invitational.

2021 Outdoor All-American Julianna Perez threw a qualifying mark of 12.27 meters in the shot put, helping her punch her ticket to indoor nationals. Karsten Deakin won the event and hit the qualifying mark for the third consecutive meet, this time at 12.53 m.

The distance medley relay (featuring Anna Harmon, Zaria Hamilton, Makayla Engelhardt, and Kate Brockman) took on the challenge of attempting to beat the qualifying mark solo, and they did so successfully, running a time of 13:13.04.

Ciara Bardwell put up back-to-back school records in the 60-meter dash. Bardwell broke the previous school record of 7.88 seconds in the prelims with a 7.82 mark, then returned in the finals to break it once again with a time of 7.77 seconds. The moment was bittersweet for Bardwell, as she still ended up one one-hundredth of a second off from the national qualifying time of 7.76.

Brooke Stradling hit a qualifying time in a second event this indoor season. This time, she was able to just dip under the standard of 3:10.86 with a 3:10.80 effort. Brockman doubled back in the 800-meter run with a victory (2:27.57), while Engelhardt was third (2:31.55). Sara Jacobsen was second in the high jump (1.42 m). Deakin and Perez also went 1-2 in the weight throw, putting up marks of 14.12 m and 13.66 m. Click on the link below to view the complete results.
