Ellis Collins named National Athlete of the Week
New Orleans, L.A. - Ellis Collins was awarded the Outdoor Track & Field National Athlete of the Week for NJCAA Division I women by the USTFCCCA (United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) on Tuesday, April 20th.
Collins, a sophomore from Queen Creek, Ariz., earned the national honor after her school record-breaking performance in the 3000-meter steeplechase this past Friday at the Mesa Invitational, where she ran a time of 11:10.57. She beat the previous school record by nearly 11 seconds and currently has the number one nationally ranked time for NJCAA Division I women in the event.
The T-Birds will compete in the NJCAA Region I Championships on April 27th and 29th at John D. Riggs Stadium.
