Men and Women Finish Third at Regionals

Mesa, Ariz. - The NJCAA Region I Outdoor Track & Field Championships wrapped up Thursday night, with both the men's and women's teams placing third in the final team score. Pima CC won the team title for both the men and women, while Central Arizona College was second on both sides. Glendale CC finished fourth for the women and fifth for the men, and Paradise Valley CC was fifth for the women and fourth for the men.

All-Region Honors are rewarded to the top three individual athletes and top two relay teams in each event.

MCC had five event winners on day two. Mary Siml in the women's 800-meter (2:20.38), Andrew McCumber in the men's 1500-meter (4:01.20), Caden Resendez in the men's 5000-meter (15:15.36), Desmond Lott in the men's discuss (159 feet), and Noah Miller in the men's shot put (52 feet, 4 inches).

Second-place finishes were earned by Ciara Bardwell in the women's 400-meter (58.35), Mary Siml in the women's 1500-meter (4:46.72), Ellis Collins in the women's 5000-meter (18:59.37), Noah Miller in the men's discus (142 feet, nine inches), Julianna Perez in the women's discus (133 feet, 2 inches), and Desmond Lott in the men's hammer (145 feet, four inches). 

Third-place finishers included Geoffrey Grossthal in the men's 800-meter (1:55.43), John Gomez in the men's shot put (45 feet, 10.75 inches), Julianna Perez in the women's shot put (40 feet, 7.75 inches), and Jakoby Griffin in the men's triple jump (45 feet, 3.50 inches).

The T-Birds will finish their season at the 2021 NJCAA Division I Outdoor National Championships at South Plains College in Levelland, Texas from May 11th - May 14th.
